AFTER PRACTICING WITH Viley for hours, the two returned to the hospital to find Aida at the front desk talking with the receptionist.

Aida leaned on the tall counter as they entered the hospital. “I’m glad you’re back. I wanted to talk to you.”

Dion’s face dropped. “Did something happen? Is it about Max? Is he alright?”

“Nothing happened. It’s actually about you two leaving. I’ve given it some thought, and I know what it’s like to worry about your sister and not have any way to know if she is okay.” Aida and Viley made eye contact. “It’s not a good feeling, so I’m giving you the green light to leave.”

Dion squealed and hugged Aida. “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” She didn’t know where to find Danica, but she would give it her all.

“I have to pack a bag for you with ointments, creams, meds, and cleaning supplies. Care for him, okay? If anything goes wrong, please call me or take him to a clinic or hospital nearby,” Aida said.

“Got it. I clean it and put some cream on it right?”

“And bandages. Change them when it gets bad, he is feeling pain, or after two days,” Aida said. “I haven’t told Max yet, so you can go up to talk to him while I talk to my sister.”

Dion nodded and left toward the elevator, jabbing the button as Aida and Viley stepped outside. She rode the chrome elevator to Max’s floor and tried not to run to his room with excitement. The last time they met, he blew up at her. She stopped just before the door and composed herself.

She gave the door a knock before entering the room. Max sat in his bed squeezing a small pink ball. He looked up at her and back down to the ball.

“Aida is giving us the green light to go.”

“Okay,” Max said.

Dion went over to him and sat on the end of the bed. Should she bring up his attitude or move on to something else? If this were Danica, what would she do?

“So, guess what?”

“What?”

“I’ve been practicing my telekinesis. Would you like to see?”

Max sighed and turned to let his feet dangle off the bed. “Sure.”

Dion smiled and focused on the armchair in the corner. While practicing with Viley, she moved a few pieces of furniture in the house. With an outstretched hand, she moved the chair from the wall and over to the bed. She lifted it into the air and around in circles before her head buzzed. She lost concentration and held her forehead. The chair fell to the ground on its side.

“Hey! You alright?” Max put a hand on her shoulder.

The sharp pain subsided, and Dion blinked a few times before opening her eyes. “I guess I overdid it at practice today.”

“Take it easy. I can’t risk losing you too,” Max said. “I don’t even want to think about his reaction when I tell him about Danica.”

Dion pinched the bridge of her nose and exhaled. “We don’t have to tell him about her.
